The Blimp pilots are an app development team, who make apps for iPhone in their spare time. Distant shore and Koi pond have been added to the app treasures list, so lets keep things snappy and review each of there apps in chronological order starting of with….

Name in Lights, Billed as the most featured banner app in the app store it deserves the praise it gets, with a large number of features for something so simple as displaying a message. It allows the simple on sentence scrolling across the screen as well as coming with editable templates and presets, it also comes with the option to combine these to create a show. This high quality app is available for 59p or $0.99, it’s a fun little messaging service and my favourite preset is the can i buy a drink one useful in any crowded bar, all in all a good buy. After this strong launch the pilots bring us The #1 selling app of 2008!

Koi Pond, a relaxing water sim for your iPhone. Presented from a top down view turning the iPhone into a pond full of koi the graphics in this game are stunning, it is defiantly one of the best looking apps ever. It has a simple concept you have a pond with fish in, watch them and relax. The sound is relaxing and  beneficial tohelp create a relaxing atmosphere where ever you are. If you shake the phone fish food appears which they will swim up to eat creating qa realistic water effect. The game gives the illusion of turning your screen to liquid and when you touch the fish and water react realistically, If you leave your finger still against the screen the fish will come and nibble it causing the phone to vibrate. Recently updated With 2 new fish and a sleep timer and the option for a tile background this app is very much alive and deserves to be the number one selling app of last year. There latest app is one of the most inavotive  and once again has a strong concept and like the pond is relaxing welcome to your…

Distant shore, the endless beach on which messages float ashore, these messages are sent by other people who earned bottles by collecting shells when you do the same you can cast out a message and it could go anywhere in the world. once messages are washed ashore you can send a reply and this starts interesting conversation. Keeping up the high graphics, and high standard of the pilots this app is nothing short of a master piece, a brilliant concept well executed.

The Blimp Pilots are very successful and I look forward to seeing what they produce next, all there apps cost 0.59p or $0.99 and a very good value, there apps are a must buy.

App box Pro 59p or $0.99

For my 2nd review of the day i’ve decided to take a look at the number 1 paid app in the uk app store which is app box pro, this is a collection of iPhone and iPod utilities, so is it jack of all trades master of none? lets take a look.

The home screen is well presented and looks good, there are 18 applications, so it is high value as i payed the same price just for a battery checker which this app does. Some of the apps featured are utterly pointless like the random number generator. I figure the best way to review this app is to review each individual function then decide if its useful or not

Battery life, a nice batter indicator looks good and tells you how long the phone will last using the different functions of the iPhone except camera overall high quality. Useful

Clinometer, this is basically a spirit level you can change between surfaces and the bubble ones making it possible to measure how stirght your table is, this would be useful if you were doing diy but not in everyday life, and when needed it does its job well giving you the options to do it on 3 different sets of measurements and calibrate it. Useful for diy.

Currency converter, I have to say this is the best converter i’ve ever used providing real time updates as you change the original rate and a simple to use interface. useful

dashboard, displays the date exchange rate and upcoming holidays around the world and some stats about your iPhone. useful

date calculator, tells you the number of days between the current date and  a set date, has a good interface not very useful though.

The days until app just doesnt work so it’s not useful at all.

Flash light, makes the screen white theres a fun little colour slider if you want to illuminate things different colours but it’s not very good. Not useful

Holidays, tells you all the holidays dates  and how long ago or how long until them, pretty pointless in all honesty but its useful for finding out how long till christmas its 89 days according to this. not useful

Loan, calculates the amount your paying a month on a loan and allows you to compare them this is useful especially if you have borrowed money and need to know how much to save per week to repay it by the deadline. useful

pCalender its Essentialy a period calculator allowing women to work out when there next period is and when they might get pregnant, it seems pointless to me but i’m a man so i’m willing to be corrected in the comments. not useful

Price grab, shows you which is better value at how much things cost. useful

random, a random number generator. totally useless

ruler, it’s a ruler its about 7 cm long so not useful

sale price, works out the cost of sale items by doing the maths for you , quite useful when out shopping.

system info, well it does what its says in the title gives you information about your phone in some nice pie charts useful for seeing how full your hardrive is on the go.

tip calculator, calculates how much to tip the waiter, useful in restaurants

Translator, another strong translator, this is quite useful as it allows you to favorite or mail the translations. useful

google books and apple web apps i’m going to count as one thing because there both pretty useless and use the web, google books is Essentially google books like you’d find on the internet.

collapse, a very bad game useless.

So in conclusion this is a very useful set of applications and is very very good value for money a strong recommendation, I will not do a video review for this app as showing everything will tak to long.

Blades of fury- £3.99 or $6 aprox

GameLoft are one of the largest and strongest games developers for mobile gaming with titles like assassin’s creed and guitar hero rock tour 2 hitting our iPhones, one of there latest games Blades of Fury is one of the higher priced in the app store but it is highly enjoyable and well worth it.

This is your typical side on fighting game, its presented in 3D with strong graphics and an annoying intro movie which you can luckily skip. On the home screen you have the option to play single player or multiplayer. The single player campaign is enjoyable its a good 8 fights but if you quit the app around fight 6 you have to restart the whole process again which is irritating if your gaming on the go. As in most fighting games the story is weak to say the least presented on scrolling screens in-between fights. When you complete the campaign with different characters you unlock new skins for them and when you complete it a few times you unlock new characters, theres about 4 and in my view it’s not worth it. Other single player modes include arcade mode which is basically quick play and survival which is fight until you lose.

The multiplayer is one of the main reasons this game is so expensive as you can play over the internet, developers need to learn that iPhone internet multiplayer does NOT work, Whilst it works fine when you find a game it takes forever to find one, the quick play mode is much better. Bluetooth multiplayer on the other hand is very fun and works well so unless your with your friends single player is the only part of this game which works.

The actual game play works well, characters have 3 basic attack buttons, horizontal, vertical and magic these can be used to create stronger attacks if used in the correct combinations although you’ll find yourself button bashing. The  movement controls are clunky and unresponsive. You fight until you knock your opponent out or in the most annoying gameplay design ever throw them out of the ring, which gets very annoying if your winning and then you lose because your almost K.Oed oppision throws you out of the ring. The graphics are strong and the game looks good.

In conclusion its a fun game slightly expensive for what it is but with strong replay values I recommend it
